Founder, Chairman of Board
Mr. Aissaoui is a founder and non-executive chairman of the board of GoldStar Oil and Gas Limited. He has over 40 years of technical and management experience in onshore/offshore drilling operations. He recently completed a senior leadership role with Saudi Aramco DSV where he designed and executed workover and regular offshore/onshore drilling programs totalling $USD200 million. He has extensive offshore drilling experience including as a drilling supervisor in charge of an ONGC (Oil National Gas Company, India) offshore workover campaign. He has worked as a senior drilling manager for such companies as Schlumberger in Libya and Algeria, Halliburton in Algeria and Iraq, and Nabors Drilling in Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.
Darren (Abdulrahim) Stevenson
Founder, Chief Executive
Mr. Stevenson is a founder and chief executive of GoldStar Oil and Gas Limited. He currently spends time between Casablanca, Morocco and Vancouver, Canada with his primary focus on building a strategic investment portfolio for GoldStar in the MENA region with the first investment capital to be employed in Tunisia and Oman. The Company is currently closing a private equity investment from the United States totaling some $US30 million for the Tunisian and Oman exploration programs.
He has spent more than 23 years in corporate turnarounds, fundraising and mergers and acquisitions, raising investment capital of $US125 million in the last 10 years for 3 companies he has founded, namely Bighorn Petroleum Ltd, Blacksands Petroleum Inc. and most recently, Voyageur Oil and Gas. Voyageur has sold its Tunisian exploration asset for just over $US80 million in cash and exploration commitments to Anadarko Petroleum (a $US15 billion+ US-based independent energy company).
Prior to forming GoldStar in 2016, he led a corporate turnaround advisory team for an oil and gas services contractor owned by a group of GCC investors led by Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Jeraisy. He has a strong track record as a successful energy and business development leader, where he has delivered significant revenues, profits and market share for several major energy companies. Mr. Stevenson spent almost five years starting in 2001, in The Hague, Amsterdam and Moscow with Royal Dutch Shell PLC as a senior executive in support of Shell’s business pursuits in Europe, Middle East and Russia. During his tenure at Shell Global Solutions International BV, he led a technology sales team based in the Hague and Moscow, selling key downstream technologies such as gasification, hydrocracking, fluid catalytic cracking and visbreaking to new strategic partners in Russia CIS (Rosneft, Sibneft Surgutneftegaz) and the People’s Republic of China (PetroChina, Sinopec). He then went on to lead an integrated corporate/operations team for Shell International Exploration and Production that helped to provide corporate turnaround services for Russian service contractors and was part of the team that created more than a $1 billion in new business for which he was awarded the Shell Rainmaker Award and admitted to the Shell Presidents Club. He has also worked for Syncrude Canada in northern Alberta, Canada as a process engineer 1997/8.
He studied chemical engineering at University of British Columbia Canada where he created a technology company with his professors, Membrane Reactor Technologies Ltd. He holds a commercial pilot’s license and flew as a line pilot with two companies he founded, Powell River Air Services and Smartsky.
Founder, Technical Director
Mr. Francoeur is an early investor and founder of GoldStar and currently serves as technical director. He holds a BSc. Geology (Concordia University) and brings over 34 years of technical, management experience in the oil and gas industry. Founder and president of Serpa Petroleum Consulting Ltd. (1987) in Calgary which provides Wellsite Geological consulting services primarily in Western Canada.
He is a member of APEGGA and a professional Geologist since 2004 and is a recognized expert in horizontal wellsite geology procedures for conventional & non-conventional reservoirs. His clients include; Canadian Natural Resources (CNRL), Cenovus, ConocoPhillips, EnCana, EOG Canada, NAL Resources, Nexen Inc.
Director, Tunisia Operations
Dr. Mongi Gharbi currently serves as our Director, Tunisia Operations and has 38 + years in the oil and gas exploration, drilling, production and operations management including 12 years as an expat technical manager with Shell Exploration and Production International B.V. ( Tunisia, Holland and Norway) . He holds a bachelor degree in mathematics and PhD degree in Mineralogy & Metallogeny (INPL, Nancy France).
He is experienced in Field Geology (Algeria, Tunisia and Libya) Operations Geology, Seismic Interpretations, Basins Evaluation, Prospects Generation, Round Applications and Farm in / Farm out and Open acreage Evaluations (North America, Hungary and Syria) He has worked for Union Texas ( Tunisia, Spain and France) HBS International ( Tunisia, Libya and Egypt) Plus Petrol ( Algeria, Tunisia and Libya) and Athanor Tunisia BV.
Mongi is recognized as an engineer and geologist who has interpreted geological well and seismic data from a variety of depositional environments and in most of the sedimentary basins in the MENA region. He is a Tunisian citizen and speaks fluently in Arabic, French, English and Swedish.
Gary R. King
Gary King is the Managing Partner of The Matrix Partnership, a strategic advisory firm focused on oil and gas and natural resources. He has a broad 30 year international career as an exploration geologist, oil trader and asset manager and is a seasoned CEO and Board member with Government, listed and privately held energy and asset management companies.
Mr. King is Senior Advisor (Middle East) to Perella Weinberg US oil and gas investment bank subsidiary Tudor Pickering Holt, and an independent Director and member of the Board of Directors of NYSE Listed Parker Drilling Company. He is also a longstanding member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (“NACD”).
His US experience includes Houston based roles as CEO of Tarka Resources and Vice Chairman of Manti Oil and Gas, where he was involved in building land positions and drilling campaigns in several conventional and unconventional exploration plays, including the Eagleford and Permian.
He previously held several CEO and senior executive positions with Government of Dubai entities including the Dubai Mercantile Exchange (Founding CEO), Sovereign Wealth Fund Dubai Natural Resources World (Founding CEO), Emirates National Oil Company (General Manager Risk Management and Senior Strategic Advisor to Group CEO) and Dragon Oil Plc. (Managing Director). He also held senior international executive roles with Morgan Stanley, Macquarie Bank and Standard Bank.
He was a founder of the first private equity fund to be established in the GCC to invest exclusively in the energy sector, and one of the first companies to be incorporated and licensed within the Dubai International Financial Centre (“DIFC”).
He has also held advisory roles with some of the world’s largest financial institutions and energy companies, including Morgan Stanley, Macquarie Bank, Nexen International Petroleum and Aegis Defence Services. He has a BSc and an MSc in Petroleum Exploration Geology from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London University.
Robert Scott Harries
Robert S. Harries, BASc. (Chem Eng) brings to the advisory board over 18 years of experience in operations management with majors Schlumberger and Weatherford International. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada and then started an 11 year career with Schlumberger, starting as a field engineer and rising up through the corporation to become an operations manager with varied assignments beginning in Alberta, and Nova Scotia Canada, Bogota, Columbia and finally Texas, USA.
He then took up a challenging role at Weatherford International in Calgary starting as a technical manager and then was promoted in 2011 to become the Wireline and Testing Business Manager for Canada where he was responsible for a $250 million budget and 700 people in multiple business units across Canada.
In July 2013, Rob decided to pursue an exciting new opportunity as the global operations manager based in Calgary for Blue Spark Energy, a startup that is rolling out its oil recovery improvement technology, WASP™ (Wireline Applied Stimulation Pulsing).
